For Pepsi, Kwok is it

STORY: CANTO-POP king Aaron Kwok Fu-shing and superstar Janet Jackson are set to appear together on your television screen, albeit in a PepsiCo commercial.

Entertainment circles describe this happening as unique as it marks two ``firsts'': it is mega-star Jackson's first appearance in a TV commercial and it is also the first time that an Asian artist has worked with the superstar in an advertisement.

On Tuesday Kwok and his manager, Siu Mei, together with a crew of staff rode on yacht Fu Shing to the Aberdeen Marina Club for a press conference.

Apart from announcing the thrilling news that Kwok will partner Jackson in its latest commercial, the soft-drink maker also revealed that it will sponsor two of his concerts in Shanghai, on 12 and 13 February.

Of Jackson, Kwok said: ``She has a sweet smile, she is nice, sexy but shy and she's very professional.''

Kwok admits he felt a lot of pressure, but was honoured to have the opportunity to work with Jackson.

The US star gave one of her world-tour brochures to Kwok as a souvenir with this message: ``Aaron, it was great working with you. You are very handsome. I love you, Janet.''

Kwok was impressed at the way that he was treated during the filming of the commercial. He was protected by a Central Intelligence Agency bodyguard, and the film crew was professional and courteous.

The commercial was filmed in Sydney, Australia, last December. At the same time, Jackson was conducting her world tour for her latest album, The Velvet Rope.

The Pepsi commercial finds Jackson in a futuristic world, playing Cupid. Standing on her grand stage, Jackson crosses mystical boundaries with her magical touch and communicates in song with a man _ Kwok _ from another world. Eventually the taste of Pepsi inspires Jackson to leave her planet to join Kwok in his.

There are two versions of the commercial _ one is performed by Jackson solely, while in the other she partners Kwok.

A decision has not been made as to which version will be screened in the United States, but viewers in the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan will definitely see the two superstars performing together.

Jackson has been delighting music fans across the globe for more than a decade.

Explaining why she chose Pepsi for her first TV commercial, Jackson said: ``Aside from being associated with many famous artists, Pepsi is just incredible when it comes to advertising, and I'm a big fan.''

Kwok has been at the forefront of the Asian music scene. Last year was a fruitful year for him: he won TVB's Most Popular Male Singer award and Radio Television Hong Kong's Most Popular Singer in Asia award.
