Dutch Chinese Newspapers 01.13.2002

Aaron appeared continuously in the Dutch Chinese Newspapers these days due to his big events of the past days.

The first article took almost a whole page, including huge headlines and pictures of the Pepsi Signing event. It said Aaron’s salary has risen a full 50% by Pepsi (!!!!!!!!!!!!!). It also said that Aaron holds the ‘longest maintained Pepsi spokesperson’ record on the world (!!!!!!!!). The signed contract was the 3rd continuous contract. Aaron drove his 8 sportscars one by one into the Coliseum.

The second article took ¾ page, with the same size of headlines and pictures of his Charity Concert. It said that the concert opening had a delay of 45 minutes. The audience had boo-ed 4 times before the concert finally started. Aaron appeared in Harry Potter costume with a background of magicians and castles. Later he appeared in a black singlet and got boo-ed again! Upon this, Aaron said: “Why do you react so emotionally? Have I gained a lot of weight/ Have I become fatter???” Later in the show a fan gave Aaron a towel. Aaron took it and used it to wipe off his sweat… and then returned it to the fan. The press picked on him for his unhealthy behaviour. During his talk to the audience, Aaron mentioned that one of his new songs was called ‘Eating You Up’. He continued: “So do you want me to eat you all up? Don’t worry, I’ll poo you out afterwards”. Both audience and press reacted disgusted of his ‘dirty talk’. Upon this, Aaron reacted: “Well, it’s very usual to poo after eating!!!” Furthermore, he mentioned Norika by saying that they had appeared as a ‘couple’ continuously because they were promoting. Now it’s ended, they won’t ever appear as a couple again. He emphasized they’re only friends, and because he’ll be very busy, he won’t have time to go to Japan. When the people kept pushing the subject, Aaron said: “Luckily the girl we’re talking about is very big-hearted. If she were someone else, she might’ve taken it very seriously/mind!”

Today I rent the videotape of the CRHK Award Show 2001. It is the very first Award show considering the past year (2001). Aaron was called out in the first group of singers together with Eason Chan and Jordan Chan. During their stair-walking to the stage, Eason clapped Aaron on the back as if they were friends. Aaron received the first award for ‘Para Para Sakura’. All the results were un-revealed ahead without any prediction, so everyone sang live and didn’t really know what part of the music of their song would be played. Some singers had some problems catching up, because they thought they had to sing more or the other way around. Aaron sang ‘Para Para Sakura’ live, but he didn’t really do well ;-P. Later on the show, Aaron was called up again for an award for ‘The More Love The Better’. The music started very soon, so Aaron missed out a complete half of the verse (only music playing) and jumped in the second part of the verse. He also forgot lines of the chorus (which was played twice, so he made the same error twice) and filled it with another line. From his face he was very insecure about the performance, because he was not told anything of what part he had to perform. There were a few dancers and by looking at their steps (so he knew what part of the song he was) and jumping in, he kind of ‘saved’ himself. He received the last award for ‘Best Male Singer’, which included 3 singers: Andy Hui, Andy Lau and Aaron. He appeared on stage again to read out the award winner for another award. The host noted that Aaron’s appearance was very ‘shiny’ that night (he wore shiny clothes), and Aaron then entered the stage with: “How shiny is that?”Aaron’s name was continuously mentioned by the hosts when summing up the singers, who might get the next award. There was a corner of Aaron fans holding cards with his name, but the cards were quite small. One funny thing was that in the complete ‘thanking’-parade, Aaron did NOT mention First Strong Workshop of Siu May at ALL, not ONCE. He only thanked Warner, the composer of the songs, his fans and Peter Kam.

I also have the JSG 4th Quarter video tape at home but I haven’t watched it yet. If it contains Aaron, I’ll surely tell you. Oh, and last night, the JSG Finals was held… Let’s hope we will read good news in the newspapers!!!!!!!
